Peace Day at EABH was such a wonderful, empowering day. In second grade we took most of the day to discuss, write about, listen to music about and read stories about Peace. We began the morning with a school wide assembly which students really seemed to grasp the idea of world-wide peace. We immediately went back to our classroom and laid down on the carpet, closed our eyes and listened to music such as, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, byIsrael Kamakawiwo'ole, Waiting On the World to Change, by john Mayer, and watched the video below. I was overwhelmed by the responses I heard. Students talked about Peace beginning with them, the ways Peace can be shown through things like sharing, caring and loving, and how we can show Peace through everyday actions. Students wrote these ideas down and I displayed them outside our classroom for everyone to admire. At one point, I got teary eyed when listening to their Peace conversation, one student asked if Peace made me sad, I said "No, your brilliant answers make me happy!" These are some of my favorite pictures from the day. Enjoy!
