Sometimes our creative juices just aren't flowing as we would like them to. Today was one of those days! So instead of doing our daily journal writing, I gave each "peanut butter and jelly match up partners" a set of 6 picture cards, and they created oral stories. Needless to say, these stories were incredibly creative and hilarious!
Ocean week has started off with a bang! Many students have brought it books, posters, toys and interesting facts about the ocean and sea life. Today we had a chance to play outside with the toys we brought in. Many students used our crafting box to create habitats for their toys, and other sea life creature to play with. What wonderful imaginations these 2nd graders have!
What a perfect way to end a busy day. Taking a few minute to just...listen to the beautiful sound of rain!
We came into class this morning to find our small, size of a period, sea monkey, had about tripled in size! He is not the length of an exclamation point, and has eaten his other brothers and sisters. Can you find him?
Today made for a fun reenactment day! All day I was, "Captain Rachel", Captain of the Mayflower ship in 1620. My "crew" had a small place to live. They had to stay on top of their desks for our class periods!
Many students felt how miserable it would have been to have to sit in such a small space for a long period of time. We also did not use electricity! It was hard to write using only the light from outside. They also wrote down 5 things that they would have brought with them when traveling from England to a new land. Many student chose things like: stuffed animals, blankets, pictures of family and friends, and even candy. It was hard thinking of things that were small enough to keep in our small space, and things that were not electric! This was a great day, and students enjoyed the interactive learning process. Ask them to explain Thanksgiving to you! |
