Today made for a fun reenactment day! All day I was, "Captain Rachel", Captain of the Mayflower ship in 1620. My "crew" had a small place to live. They had to stay on top of their desks for our class periods!
Many students felt how miserable it would have been to have to sit in such a small space for a long period of time. We also did not use electricity! It was hard to write using only the light from outside.
They also wrote down 5 things that they would have brought with them when traveling from England to a new land. Many student chose things like: stuffed animals, blankets, pictures of family and friends, and even candy. It was hard thinking of things that were small enough to keep in our small space, and things that were not electric!
This was a great day, and students enjoyed the interactive learning process.
Ask them to explain Thanksgiving to you!
