Letter of the Week
Our Basal textbooks teach a letter a week. We practice the letter, sing about the letter, rhyme with the letter and much more.
At home, practice finding this letter in the stories you read together, and see how it may sound different depending on the word it's in

UNIT/THEME
Every few weeks we begin a new theme/unit. Our studies, art projects, and read out loud are all
directly related to this theme.
Talk with your child about the theme we are working on in class. See how it can relate to your family outside of school. Read books from home or the library that corollate to this theme.

Things to do in the Car!
*Find the alphabet using license plates and road signs
*Call out colors and letters for your child to show you in sign language
*Ask meaningful questions about school:
what did your hands touch? which friend made you feel happy today? what questions did you ask/answer?
*Play a categorizing game:
My (grandma) is weird. She only likes hats, houses, and hearts. She does not like turtles, kids, or computers. How is she weird?? She only likes things that begin with the letter H! what else does my (grandma) like? High Fives, hula hoops, helicopters...
Or Out of the Car
Look through books, old magazines, newspapers-any print medium you can find.
Point to letters and ask what the letter is and what sound it makes.
Have children point to words they know or recognize in magazines-at the store-when walking around Target...
