In New York I got a Sea Monkey kit. All week we have been prepping the tank, the water and the eggs to hatch. Today they did! They are as small as a period ( . ) but we hope with our love and affection, they will grow large enough to see!
18 facts about reptiles, scattered around the gym. Partners must hunt for facts and answers. Pumping up our brains and our running legs, perfect morning activity!
Created and performed by EABH Second Graders!! I got back from New York just in time to see the scary and wonderful costumes from 2nd grade!! Today we read spooky stories, shared our costumes, created a dance to the song "Ghostbusters!", and went tricker treating, all before the fun Halloween party at school. Here are some pictures of our day!! Peter Pan and kitty Yummy cupcakes from Sofia! Skeleton working on rice words! Performing our Ghostbusters dance in the library!!! We spoke in class about how some of our ancestors might have gone through Ellis Island to get accepted, or turned away from moving to America. 2nd grade and I have been learning all about the digestive process, including how different parts of our mouths help break down the food we eat. We talked about our tongues and noses helping our tasting senses, and then read an article about our teeth. In this article we learned that a hard boiled egg shell, is made up of similar characteristics to our teeth. To test how strong our teeth are against common liquids that we drink, students brought in three of their favorite sodas. Fanta Uva, Coca Cola, Sprite, and Water. We put a hard boiled egg into each glass of liquid, and left them their over the break. When we returned, we saw some pretty astonishing results! Being Scientists for the day, writing down observations after taking the cracked, colored, wrecked eggs out of their liquids. Getting students to use adjectives to make their sentences "spicier" is hard than you'd think! We played a silly game to get them to realize how important adjectives are, to make our sentences and stories more interesting.
