|Mrs. McNickle's 1st Grade!||
This week we took some old boxes and turned them into Rural, Suburban, and Urban neighborhoods. Students picked which neighborhood they would like to work on, and created a collaborative project using recycled materials found in the classroom.
The finished products!
To kick off our Animal Unit, students formed small groups and created their own puppet show using setting, characters and plots.
To close our nutrition unit, we made fruit pattern kebabs!
We practiced knife skills
Made and ate Kebabs
Tried Green juice! (they loved it!)
Today students made their own class collage of foods they found in magazines that were either healthy, or not. Then we discussed the reasons they fell into these categories and began discussing the 5 food groups.
Yes, if you look closely enough on the non-healthy side, one of my students (who will not be named) glued a picture of a Corona!
Today my Dad came to school with his motorcycle to show the students a two-wheeled vehicle! They loved asking questions and looking at all the parts.
They even learned about friction!
For our transportation unit, students turned a box, into a moving vehicle. First they wrote about their design in their journal, then got to work, without any help from me! They spent a day deciding who would be responsible for which parts of the "vehicle". The following day they painted, then used scrap pieces of paper to create the part of their vehicle, and finally got to take it outside and drive it.
